Cemetery Worker - Seasonal Employment

Kalmar parish consists of five urban congregations with approximately 22,000 members, and we are proud to offer a vibrant and engaged parish community.

With over 90 dedicated employees and several volunteers, we create an inclusive community for the people of Kalmar. In addition to a vital worship life, our activities include rich parish work and burial services in our cemeteries.

The burial services of Kalmar parish are responsible for three cemeteries covering 26 hectares of burial land and around 15,000 graves. Here, centuries meet – from the first resting places of the 1200s to our own time. During the peak season, we are about thirty employees in green space maintenance, the majority of whom are seasonally employed.

Our workdays are varied and can include everything from painting, planting, and digging to machine maintenance and tidying around graves where every detail counts.

One moment we work with heavy tools, the next with a gentle hand – always with respect for the place and the people who visit us.

Environmental work is an obvious part of our everyday life. Within the burial services, we let sustainability and future thinking be at the center. We actively work with biodiversity, perennial plants, and fossil-free tools and machines. Our ambition is not only to manage history but also to be good examples for the future.

Job Responsibilities

• Green space maintenance (lawn mowing, trimming, hedge clipping, and leaf collection, etc.)
• Maintenance of gravel areas (weeding, edging, and raking, etc.)
• Grave maintenance (planting and watering, etc.)

Qualifications

The employee we are looking for

• Is secure, stable, and shows good judgment.
• Is meticulous, structured, and responsible.
• Has good social skills and can work both in a team and independently.
• Has experience in park work and burial services.
• Has education in gardening and green spaces.
• Has a B driver's license.

Meritorious:

• Experience with brush cutter work.
• Experience operating machines such as tractors and lawn mowers.
• A good sense of vegetation and cultural environments are other qualities we value highly.

Employment Conditions

Seasonal employment from March 16 to November 15.

Salary according to the agreements of the Church of Sweden.
